  2. How old does the main driver have to be? The driver has to be at least 21 years old and have held a driving licence for at least a year. The driver must hold a credit card in their own name and have enough credit to cover the insurance excess. There are some companies that will offer rentals to younger drivers if they take out addtional insurance. Give us a call if you need help.
  3. How many people will be sleeping in the campervan? It's important to get this right! The campervans and motorhomes in Italy have many different bed layouts. Some only have double beds while others offer bunk beds. So, if you are travelling with children and teenagers, consider the larger motorhomes with various bed sizes on offer.
  4. How much does it cost to rent a campervan in Italy? We have to say, "It depends" You can rent small, older camping cars that are much cheaper than larger, new motorhomes. The time of year that you travel in Italy will determing if the camper is cheap or expensive. Travel during the summer months then your daily rate will be much higher than renting during the winter months. Also, renting during school holidays and public holidays is also more pricey. You can get really good deals that make renting much more affordable if you book a long time in advance.
  5. Is the campervan insured? Yes, all campervans have a level of insurance. Each rental company has different rental terms and conditions but all have cover and the level of insurance liability is clearly stated when you get a quote or make a booking. You can in many cases reduce the level of liability by paying an extra fee. You will still have to leave a security deposit to cover the excess.
  6. Where do we camp overnight? Italy has campsites suitable for campervans and motorhomes everywhere. Many or these are commercial but there are local council run cheap overnight stops where you pay a small fee. These are called "Aree di Sosta" Some may even be free. They have fresh water and waste disposal facilities. Local tourist offices are a good source of information about Sostas.
  7. What are the driving regulations covering campervans and motorhomes? In Italy you are not permitted to travel on the motorways during rush hours. Your speed may be restricted if you are driving a larger van. This will be explained to you when you collect your camper. Yes, there are specific regulations for driving campervans in Italy. The speed limit on motorways is usually 130 km/h (80 mph), 90 km/h (55 mph) on main roads outside urban areas, and 50 km/h (30 mph) in urban areas. Always follow the local traffic rules and be aware of ZTL (Limited Traffic Zones) restrictions in some city centers.
  8. What other costs are involved in renting a campervan? Many companies charge extra for bedding, kitchen kits, mileage, bike racks and GPS. All these costs are listed on our booking engine before you booh.

  10. What are ZTLs or limited traffic zones? These are Zona Traffico Limitato or Limited Traffic Zone - areas in and around cities where you vehicles are not permitted without a permit. These are around both villages as well as towns and cities. There may be times when you are permitted to drive in and there are signs to alert you. You can park outside these zones and use public transport or walk into towns affected by these restrictions. Don't rely on google maps or your GPS to alert you - look for the road signs or check the official map of the area or city you are travelling to.
